NV Energy provides electricity across much of Nevada, including Las Vegas and Reno. If your lights are out, the utility’s live outage map is the fastest source, because news stories lag behind it. This page explains what I could confirm as of October 2, 2026, how to check and report an outage, and why outages happen.
Live status: I cannot see NV Energy’s real-time map. Use the Outage Center on the NV Energy website or sign up for alerts in MyAccount. If you see a downed line or a fire, call 911.
Latest Update: October 2, 2026
As of October 2, 2026, I found no news report of a large or widespread NV Energy outage in the Las Vegas or Reno areas. That does not mean your power is on, since small outages on a single street are rarely reported.
The most recent outage I could confirm happened on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. KSNV reported that 413 customers in the Mt. Charleston community, outside Las Vegas, lost power during active weather. The cause was listed as “under investigation,” and NV Energy expected power back by 9:15 a.m. I did not see a later report confirming the restoration.
Wildfire Safety Shutoffs
NV Energy can turn off power on purpose in extreme fire conditions. It calls this Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM). The utility says it inspects the lines before it turns power back on, and that customers are not charged while service is off. NV Energy issued a PSOM watch for several northern Nevada locations on September 9, 2026, and canceled all remaining watch areas on September 11, 2026. Its Southern Nevada page said no PSOMs were planned when I checked. Watches can return when fire danger increases.

How to Check and Report an Outage
- Open the NV Energy Outage Center, which shows affected areas, the number of customers, the listed cause, and an estimated restoration time when one is available.
- Sign up for phone, text, and email outage alerts through your NV Energy MyAccount.
- Check your breaker panel and your neighbors’ power first, so you know whether the problem is on your side of the meter.
- Report downed or sparking lines right away and stay far away from them.
I am not listing a phone number because I could not verify one in my research. Use the number on your bill or the NV Energy website.
Safety During an Outage
- Treat every downed line as live.
- Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed. An unopened refrigerator keeps food cold for about four hours.
- Never run a generator or grill inside your home or garage.
- Use flashlights rather than candles when you can.
- In extreme Las Vegas heat, move to a cool place if your air conditioning is off, and check on neighbors who are older or ill.
